I discovered Bridgedales about 5 years ago and believe that they are the Rolls Royce of the sock world. Brilliant to wear for work or walking

Indeed, the the Pembrokeshire Coast Path is a beautiful hike, but I have not had the opportunity to complete it yet, despite the fact I live in St Dogmaels.

Great post! We hiked the Inca Trail in Machu Picchu. It was one of the most memorable experiences I've had in my life. We most enjoyed the Inca Trail Tours.

Sorry but must diagree with your statement:
Clothing – wearing technical fabrics and designs means that spare clothing is not as important as it once was but, happily, extra insulation need not take up much space in your rucksack these days and will offer far more protection and flexibility than the old ‘wooly pully’.

Spare clothing is still essential. The temperature at the top of a mountain is a lot colder than at the bottom, so you can hit snow and sleet even in summer. And synthetic clothing can't cope with this. In fact wool is still, and scientifically proven to be, a far better insulator than any synthetic. You've only got to read the report on Mallory's clothing from the 1923 Everest Expedition!

Wool gives better protection, is warmer for the equivalent weight, and is far more flexible than any synthetic, and in addition is sustainable and biodegradable. it won't stink either after a couple of hour's wear.

Tried the Bridgedales as we both like merino socks but found they shrink quite a lot in the wash - even on a 30 deg wool wash. Also tried other brands with a lot of merino in them and found the same thing. Then saw these reviewed on Pete Macfarlane's blog.

We bough the Taihape Fell socks and theyre great, more comfortable than the Bridgedales and they haven't shrunk in the wash.
